Things Are About To Get Interesting

With temperatures forecast for below zero with wind, I decided that instead of killing myself this early in the season, I would do a big circuit of the lake, to see how the ice was starting to form and where places we were going to be able to venture out to first. The good news is, there is actually fishable ice on the main lake RIGHT NOW. Bad news is, there are a few spots of really rough stuff out there that will be an issue right away.

We started off right in Devils Lake and started east, before heading back to the west side, and then ending up back in Devils Lake, East Bay is almost locked up, with just the middle of the lake still open

BTB was one of the trouble spots that are going to have some really rough ice right ways. It will even out as it always does.

Like most years, the flats, being shallower; are a bit ahead of the easts side. Several spots that are fishable as we speak.

We expect to see quite a few groups heading out to both the northern feeder lakes and the main lake as well. With that being said, please keep these guidelines in mind:
-
Drill as you go
-
Go on foot
-
Travel in at least pairs
-
Have picks and rope with
-
Make sure someone knows where you are going and when you should return.
NO FISH IS WORTH A LIFE!
Good Luck out there!
