Ice Fishing

First Ice Report Of The Season

Two Words…

…Not Yet!

Pelican lake, froze over Thursday night or Friday

I know, many of you are chomping at the bit to get out on the ice but even though it is almost December, the time for caution is NOW. The main lake is still wide open, and while Mike’s, Alice, and Irvine have now locked up; it is much too thin to be wandering out there yet. Monday, maybe Tuesday we will have 4 inches by that time, but as of this posting, please don’t venture out yet.

Mike’s Lake, same, Thursday night or Friday

Lake Irvine, wide open Thursday, locked up Friday, only an inch, inch and a half though, too early.

Always Keep These Safety Guidelines In Mind

  • Drill as you go

  • Go on foot

  • Travel in at least pairs

  • Have picks and rope with

  • Make sure someone knows where you are going and when you should return.

NO FISH IS WORTH A LIFE!

Good Luck out there!

  1. I would appreciate your weekly update on ice conditions as a friend and I are making our third trip to Devils Lake coming up in January. Please include me with updates as times goes by. Thank you much, Kirk…..
