Ice Fishing

Fish Behavior and Fish Activity Tuesday!

Maybe Not as Fun as ‘TEA TUESDAY’s at The Cove’ but a lot less of a  hangover!

Our weekly commentary on Fish Behavior this week will talk about patterns.  Just as I talked about patterns and transitions for the year in Report #13, winter time has its own patterns and transition periods.

It is because of this that we are able to offer you our Early Ice Waypoint Packages, those spots hold fish at a very specific time at very close to the same calendar dates every year.

If you have the knowledge and know where these patterned areas are, you will always be on fish.

Here at Devil’s Lake Fishing Report, we are all about helping you CATCH MORE FISH, so we will introduce today a new feature on DLFR, its called LYATT!

Last Year At This Time.

I will provide for you the same data from my records that we use to target each area each week.

4 Can’t Miss Early Ice Areas to Target

Early Ice on Devils Lake and the feeder lakes means 4 things really:

Shallow Structure- most are sunken roads, rock piles, stock pond embankments, house foundations, brush piles

Early Ice Perch Taken Off the Top Of a Sunken Road in 21 Feet While Fishing For Walleyes

Shallow Flats- a lot of these are just flooded fields or old farm yards

Perch and Walleyes Taken With Jigs and Slip Bobbers On One Of Our Trusted Early Ice Spots

Open Flat Depressions- sloughs that got swallowed up by the lake, stock ponds, coulee channels

I Love Finding Depressions On My GPS, They ALWAYS Produce Some Sort Of Fish

Flooded Timber-flooded trees, flooded shelter belts, flooded groves, flooded farmsteads

There Are Always Fish In The Trees! When? ALWAYS!!!!!!

Find these and you will find fish.  We have a few that are favorite that we keep going back to and sure enough we keep fishing there and keep finding fish.

Yesterday’s Post

We had a glitch in yesterdays post and the tabs to purchase the Waypoints weren’t included.  We will be offering them everyday this week with each post. so here they are again:
