Sometimes You Just Have To Experiment and Figure Out How They Want It!

I started out the day going through a variety of colors and lurs, plastics and cranks, trying to find the right combination. I wan’t having much luck, a few pike bite offs and a couple walleye follow-ups; no Walleyes in the box.

So the time for experimentation in pace and technique was in order. I finally found the answer, reel-pull-stop-reel-pull-stop. Most of the bites came on the pause as I was reeling the line tight. While there were quite a few misses because I jsut wasn’t ready for the hit, there were so many fish it didn’t take long before I had my 5.

Up until this point in time, a very slow and steady retrieve was necessary to get bites. That changed quite a bit today. Never be afraid to experiment with your presentation. When conditions are right, the right wind, the right water clarity, the right water temp; often times it is what cadence you are using that is the problem. Find the right one and…

BOOM!

Pitching cranks was the answer today and less than 10 feet of water.
