Wednesday Weekly Ice Conditions: Episode 11- January 17th

Touching The 20’s

As evidenced by the feature photo for this post, most areas of the lake are entering into the 20+ inches of ice.  We have driven in all of the spots that we have fished the last two weeks.  While one can never say that the ice is safe, it appears we have finally gotten to the point where we are more comfortable with where we are sitting.

Concerns!

Cracks and Pressure Ridges!

The main concerns right now are there are some monster cracks out there and many pressure ridges.  It is not the big pressure ridges we are worried about though.  On the contrary, it’s the little ones that have us a little freaked.  The last snow even we had, while it didn’t drop a a lot of snow on us, it WAS blowing very strongly.  THis has left us with a lot of drifts out on the lake and some of them are pretty significant.  Some of those drifts are actually hiding some small pressure ridges.  I know I have gone over two the last two days and the second one caught me off guard and had me kind of freaked out.  If you see a really big drift, keep in mind, there might be a ridge hiding underneath.

High Pressure Fishing

We found a pretty good sized school of fish today, problem was they were a lot of yo-yo’s.  High pressure and rising may have has something to do with their docility.  We are going to investigate it further.  If you would like to join us on the ice tomorrow, you can do that by finding us here in the morning:

  1. I’m new to this site what exactly am I getting for $20. I’m bringing my 11 yr old grandson in a few weeks. Are these tips you selling? or recommended areas that are hotter than others. Enlighten me please

    1. Jim,
They are waypoints where Travis & his crew have been actively catching fish. They are proven. I was a happy customer last year, (twice).

  2. What your getting will be fishing spots that have caught fish the day you buy the coordinates. I’ve been fishing with these guys for 4 years and their info is real time. I recommend these guys if you want to fish on up to date schools of perch and walleye. Look back at the posts from Travis. They’re always looking. You won’t be disappointed. Good luck.

  3. I’m heading there to D L next week and would like to purchase the way points. Can you give me a phone #and let me know where to get them it would be greatly appreciated.
