2017-2018 Monday Ice Fishing Report: Chapter 5- December 11th

Fish To Be Had, Finding Walkable Ice Is The Key

We apologize for the report being late today, you could say we were busy:

Devils Lake Crappie Bite

They never get old.  It is addicting to sit on a spot where you are marking consistent Crappie marks and they are biting.  They weren’t stacked up underneath us in a 19 foot depression:

There were enough cruisers and pairs to make the afternoon interesting.  All of the Crappie were caught on our go-to Gold Varmint tipped with a minnow head.  Thought we had on the state record until the Pig Walleye came through the hole.  The flurry at the end would have been amazing with 2 or 3 other people along, they lit up the Vexilar.

SLABS!!

A Great ‘Grind On Em’ Walleye Location!

There are a lot of fish coming through the ice lately.  With the added number of fishermen heading out onto the ice this last weekend, more fish are showing up on the cleaning table.  Lots of pictures being sent to us and being shown on social media.  .

The Walleye bites that we have experienced, have had friends experience, and been told of have all been shallow.  Mostly, the report is 5-8 feet of water near some sort of structure whether it be a road, a hump, or a point.  Jigging Raps, Buckshots, or Tundra Tackle Vibe Mino’s tipped with minnow heads.

BIG Perch Coming Out From Non-Traditional Places!

Lots of these things showing up and not from where you would usually think to find them.  The Northern Feeder lakes are putting out some pure Super Mega Jumbos right now.  Those lakes are traditionally Walleye destinations but they are producing some Perch as well.  A few are also showing up from the big lake but not in huge numbers

Most of that is due to the fact that the ice conditions just won’t allow most to get access to prime Perch habitat.  We found our first big lake Jumbos in 24 feet of water.  There are also going to be Perch in shallower and in the trees in the early part of the year.  You will also run into schools in those Devils Lake Depressions, our favorite early ice Perch destinations.

We got ours with a JBLures Gold Varmint tipped with a minnow head.

Happy Customers and Acquaintances!

We always appreciate getting feedback and pictures sent to us from people we helped, people we know, and people we have conversed with on the ice.  Some successes from the weekend!

Good Luck Out There!
