Fishing Report, Ice Fishing

Wednesday Weekly Ice Conditions: Jan 8 2025

Almost 2 Feet Now

We are seeing a lot of full-size trucks and big fish houses out there now. While we don’t really use fish houses, there are many of them around the lake and it is safe to say that truck travel is becoming very prevalent.

While there are many pressure ridges out there, many of them are easily crossable in appropriate areas and most of them are very visible. There is a big one in EDL, one in the middle of BTB, a pretty big one in East Bay, one out by the casino, a couple across the mouth of creel and a big one that goes across the main bay. There are also a couple in the flats, with a big one going across the Mauvais Flats. While we are DevilsLakeFishingReport would never recommend crossed any of them, there are spots that have been crossed, please just be careful.

The Ice Itself

We have found 2 areas of the lake, Pelican and EDL, where there is something going on with the Ice. We have heard it from many fishermen and have had numerous reports of Ice that is dulling Auger Blades very quickly. More than 20-25 holes on Pelican and you are going to struggle to get through and the same can be said for EDL as well. At this time, those are the only 2 areas that we have found this to be the case. Whether it be because there is excess dirt or sand in the ice, it is just dulling blades very quickly, just a heads up.

The Fishing!

Today wasn’t great, it wasn’t bad, it was just so-so. We had active fish right away in the morning, but the fish activity was pretty much over by 9:30. We got on a school of Perch that were small and really inactive at the end of the day and that was about it. 8 Walleyes between 13 to 21 inches and we wrapped up our crew. Everything was in less than 20 feet of water, and everything was adjacent to either rocks or trees.

Buckshots again with a minnow head.

Good Luck out there!
