Fishing Report, Ice Fishing

Wednesday Weekly Ice Conditions: Jan. 31, 2024!

Fast Becoming The Most Popular Post Each Week

With Good Reason

This may be becoming a weekly occurrence, we hope not but with the number of people on the ice, it is going to happen. This one was very near the Bloodhole on Pelican Lake. Search and Rescue had to be called and from my understanding, everyone got out ok. However, that is beside the point, they never should have even attempted in that spot. Same as the rig that went down in BTB today as well. Crossing the pressure ridge in BTB is just not smart. We were there yesterday and had to go all the way to shore to get around it. Did it take some time?

YES!

But our snobears also didn’t go to the bottom either. With these abnormally warm temperatures for January, the ice is going to get even more unstable. Ridges and cracks are going to be contracting at an exponential rate causing even more issues out there. We aren’t to the point of saying that people shouldn’t be out there, but you have to have a little common sense and know the area that you are in. If you don’t know the area, then don’t go there.

Eventually, tragically, episodes like today are going to cost someone the ultimate price and no fish is worth that.

The time for caution is upon us and we implore you, if you are going out there, to proceed with caution. How many more rigs need to go down before the powers that be having to take action? At what cost will the county and state come out and say, ‘no more’? And in the end, we will have no one to blame but ourselves.

Please be careful out there and exercise some common sense out there.

The Fishing!

Well, some would say, with how the bite is, why would anyone risk it? Because some of us have to because we…

  • A. Love it
  • B. Get paid for it

We were shallow today, under 15 feet of water in all the spots we fished and ended with 8 good Walleyes and 2 Toad perch. The Perch bite is still out of whack and some days the Walleyes don’t cooperate either, but we keep drilling.

Good Luck out there!
