Ice Is Thick But Getting Soft And Rotten

Yes, there is still 27-30 inches of ice out there. Two days ago, despite the warm temps, it was solid and tough to drill through. Yesterday, there was a lot of water sitting on top of the ice, which is usually a pretty good sign, as it was not going right through.
Today, to start the day, that water on top of the ice was now frozen, but the ice was starting to get soft. The top 8-10 inches was just butter. By the time we left the ice at about 1, it was kind of a lot of swiss cheese. Being that there is still roughly 30 inches, ATV/UTV travel and walking out will still be doable, snobear and truck travel will be risky from here on out.
Any cracks and ridges are going to be weak, and current areas are going to be major no-no. Reports of 2 snobears going through pelican the previous 2 days and a truck going through between Mikes and Chain. I am sure there will be plenty more over the next few days as the ice freezing and warming and freezing and warming is going to continue to weaken it.
Please be careful if you are still going to be going out. And, if you are we have a couple pretty good spots for you:

Good Luck out there!
