This Last Week Had Been Decent Fishing

Despite The Fog

From my experience, fog is never a good thing. Yes, it extends those low light conditions and may prolong the early morning Walleye bite, but from what I have seen over the years, it does not help.

I would rather see clouds than fog any day.

Despite the fog, we have actually had a pretty decent week of fishing, mostly for Walleyes.

Yes, Perch numbers are way down and that leaves us with chasing the ole White Tip!

Our Walleye bites have all been in less than 20 feet of water, and sometimes even less than 10. Big lures and either a minnow had or a full minnow through the tale has been working well for us. Big buckshots, coffin spoons, mix in a few flutter spoons and ripping raps and you should find success.

The shallower you go, the longer the bite is going to last from my experience.

There Are Still Some Big Perch Out There!

If the Walleye fishing is really good and you limit out early, nothing wrong with trying to chase some of those striped tigers. We have had limited success in greater than 35 feet of water out in the open basins this last week. Not a ton of em but enough to keep you interested and trying.

Lures!

For eyes, like I said, start with something loud and obnoxious, from there go big and quiet, and then start to size down. After you have tried everything, go tiny, tungsten with a small whole minnow has actually gotten us some of our better fish over the last week.

Perch, quiet and slow. Tungsten buckshots and tungstens with whole minnow has been the best.

The Other ‘White’ Meat

If you are a true sport fisherman, do not overlook the White Bass opportunities Devils Lake has to off. They are big, super active in the winter, and a heck of a lot of fun. They also make great chowder and are just about untouchable when smoked.

Usually, it is also a deep-water game when talking about White Bass in the winter, greater than 30 feet of water.

Good Luck out there!
