Monday Weekly Fishing Report #6

All Levels Producing Fish With All Techniques

After last weeks cold front and wind events we were struggling and wondering if our weather was ever goin to come around.  Boy what a difference a week makes.  Nicer, summer weather has really brought things around and we have been locating fish in just about every water depth level, with the greatest number coming out of 14-21 feet.

With that slip deeper, our preferred technique has switched over to worms with spinners.  I love this time of year on the Big Devil when a guy can put down bottom bouncers and spinner and just troll different depths until he is on active fish.  This technique is also our Perch Target  way of getting at that Devils Lake Gold.

Just because it is our preferred way doesn’t mean it has to be your preferred way and by no means is the only way to catch Walleyes right now.

If The Twins Had Devils Lake’s Pitching Game, They Would Still Be In 1st!

If you are a crank pitcher there is ample target area right now to get after the ole Walleye and the move of depths just means you have that much more water to pitch to.  Break out the #6 and #7 Shad Raps to get at that intermediate level fish.  Target weed lines that are sporting 70-75 degree water for the most active fish.

Vertical Horizon

If you are a snap jigging kind of guy, the bridge areas and deep water rocky structures are producing fewer, but bigger fish.  Target the towers rock, Lost Jig, Byrd Island, and any of the bridges.

Pulling, Pulling, Pulling!

Devils Lake is a pullers dream and nightmare all at the same time.  There is a lot of water out there to troll on but also uncountable numbers of snags.  If you insist on trolling cranks, be prepared to lose a few.  This is one of the main reasons we pull spinners, it won’t bankrupt you.

These all came on bottom bouncers and spinners over the last 3 days.  Worms are starting to overtake the leech as the go to bait and that will start bringing into play the possibility of some Perch hookups.

Pull any road bed, pull any clean weed edge, and now troll any structures.  We have found our last few days of fish on humps and sunken flats but knw that the roadbeds are producing a lot of fish as well.  Just keep pulling until you find active fish and hook up a few times and then stick to that area.  Our best colors the last few days have been hammered gold, orange and chartreuse, and orange and white.  We have been keeping our speed at .5 to 1.5 miles per hour and have not been having any troubles hooking up with some truly beautiful Devils Lake Walleyes.
