Timber, Oh That Lovely Timber, To See The Forest For The Trees!
I cannot express to you the validity of the following statement, and I will say it a thousand times:
THERE ARE ALWAYS FISH IN THE TREES!
This statement has remained true since I began fishing Devils Lake and it will remain true long ofter I am dead and gone.
The flooded timber just offers too much good stuff for fish:
- Cover for both Predator and Prey
- Food
- Light Variances
- Shelter
These areas on the lake are ALWAYS holding fish. Now, sometimes they may not be the right fish, but there will always be fish there.
The point was brought up to me that “man, I like your site, but not everyone is as fanatical about ice fishing as you are, some of us just want to go out for a few hours, set up and at least mark a few fish without having to drill, drill, drill.”
That got me thinking, and that is basically what our mission is, to try to enable the average fisherman to find fish on Devils Lake. Then it donned on me, can we provide fisherman with areas, like flooded timber, where they can drill 4 or 5 holes and catch some fish, not necessarily Pigs, but just be able to experience some success.
Flooded Timber is perfect for this, because:
- A. We have a lot of it
- B. We have fished many of the flooded timber areas and experienced success
- C. Most of them are very easily accessible
So, we present to you a flooded timber package for the average, run of the mill Devils Lake angler:
There are 10 locations that we have fished the flooded timber in the past and experienced success without having to drill 100 holes to find fish.
The locations are:
