Pick Your Poison

Shallow -OR- Deep!!

Not Much In-Between!

In our searches the last week, one thing has become pretty clear for the time being:

DEEP or SHALLOW- Pick one!

Because there really isn’t much in-between. Whether you start off shallow and jump deeper or just stay deep, most of the fish we are finding are either under 20 feet or over 40. That mid-range depth is just void of fish.

This can create an issue with the Perch as they aren’t sized up and you might catch a Jumbo and then a 6 incher, both in 40 feet of water and they are both keepers by default. The real issue becomes when those Perch are also mixed in with Walleyes, which happens all too often on Devils Lake. I would much rather stay in that under-20 zone. The fish are more active and the flurries seem to be much more intense.

Depths To Target!

Start in 5-18, head to over 35 during the late morning, it has worked for us. Those mid-range depths will start to see more fish, but with the current conditions, go shallow then deep for the most success.

Lures That Have Worked!

We have had some successes lately with a variety of lures. Some old favorites and some new. You will hear us talk about Gold Varmints a lot and it is because that may be the best lure for Devils Lake- Period!!

However, there are a variety of other Lures and colors that have been working for us lately, to get a look at them, get your subscription!

Good Luck out there!
