Ice Growth In A Week?
INCREDIBLE!!!
There’s fast ice growth and then there is what we have going on the last week. From 3-3.5 inches to almost 12 inches, just incredible! Now take in mind that we have virtually zero snow and very clean ice, the fact that we are growing ice this quickly is pretty amazing!
Most of this is great news, except…
This rapid rate of ice growth does bring about the prospect of some pretty nasty cracks and pressure ridges that will probably start appearing,
Clear and Clean Ice
With the last 2 weeks, and this ice production, we are also seeing very clean ice this is going to make travel on the lake pretty ideal as long as we don’t get too much snow.
It’s been a few years since we have had an ideal early ice period so today we are pretty happy with what we are seeing,
Now, we just need some time and hours on the ice. Another day on the ice tomorrow, and the next day, and the next, and……

We usually try to pound this into all of your heads during our pre-ice time but since we kind if missed that period of time, we will do it now!
- Drill as you go
- Go on foot
- Travel in at least pairs
- Have picks and rope with
- Make sure someone knows where you are going and when you should return.
