Dead Calm Will Bring Ice- Temperatures Right For Lockdown

The Flats from the Graham’s Island boat landing, November 16th

My Viewpoint On This Forecast

We are at that critical point in Ice production right now for the Big Lake.  It is rip to lock up, we need a couple consecutive calm nights to get that first skim.  The Flats, North Six Mile, and Pelican have about a 4-6 inch head start and those areas are going to be the most solid ice initially.  My worry is the winds over the next week.  I fear we are going to have quite a few areas of really broken, jagged ice.  These can make it a little bumpy when we are finally driving both ATV’s and eventually Trucks.

Not much we can do about it but keep an eye on it but it is something to think about when planning your trip to The Big Devil.

Also, the New Moon Cycle hits this weekend, if you get a chance to get out, find a couple buddies and hit the Northern Feeder Lakes for some moon induced action.  Keep in mind that the waters up North are muddied and glow jigs or Tundra Tackle Lures will be very beneficial.  I know I now don’t leave home without them!!
