Irony, Just Plain Irony!!
What happens when you write about something that occasionally occurs and therefore justifies the use of that technique or strategy?
On your very next outing the exact situation occurs!
The water in some parts of Pelican Lake are getting warmer. Found 62.9 in spots. Pitched cranks into the shallows brought only Pike, BUT……
The draped spinners in 6-8 feet of water garnered these 4 beauties.
What color and bait you ask:
with LEECHES!
Stay tuned as we will be posting water temps and fishing successes as we gather the information.
Good Luck Out There!!
Hello Travis, I follow your posts pretty frequently and I was wondering if you would mind giving me some tips for fishing this area. I live in Colorado, but in the 22nd of this month my friend and I are doing a graduation trip up to Devil’s Lake to hopefully get into some of the pike. Do you have any pointers on where to go to find the pike during the last week of May? We have only fished parts of Pelican in the past. Thank you so much!
Any shallow windblown shoreline will produce pike at this time of year. Besides Pelican, North Six Mile, New Mil, Howards Bay, Knutson’s Bay, North Creel, Penny Bay, Dead Cow, and Wolford’s bay will all produce a lot of pike. Pitch #5 and #7 Scatter Raps into 1-3 feet of water along the shoreline and weed beds and you will catch pike and a lot of them.
Hey Travis, where is “Dead Cow”?
Dead Cow is the very south end of Black Tiger, Estenson’s Public Boat Landing comes out of the very south end of Dead Cow at 47 56.840/98 47.776.
One if our favorite Late May/Early June areas. Lots of interesting structures and back bays.
Thanks!!
Found the same thing on Thursday. Seems a little early for spinners but it worked. We did pickup up a few larger eyes among the northern in the shallows. Friday was all about leeches and slip bobbers in about five feet. More eyes but smaller fish.
I found them in the same depth too. I pitched the shallows for a while and only a few pike and lots of dead weeds. Later I pulled #5 flicker minnows in about 8 feet in wind blown bays with warm water. The stained water isn’t allowing the weeds to grow as fast so the walleyes are hanging out on the first break line right outside of old known weed beds of the past.
