Wednesday Weekly Ice Conditions #15

NO ICE IS SAFE ICE

We cannot express that enough and you are not sure, walk out and drill first.  The last thing we ever want to hear of is people putting themselves or their vehicle through the ice on Devils Lake.

With that being said, the only thing I can tell you is what WE plan to do for the foreseeable future.

This last storm that went through after the warm up was a windy one, gusts to 60 mph were recorded and some places in the northern reaches of the basin had white out conditions.  The good news is the main lake did not receive much in the form of snow, just some sleet, freezing rain, ice pellets, and rain.

The temperature dip that was on the tail end of the system was a blessing as there was starting to get to be some water on top of the ice.  That is all froze now and we are looking at a pretty stable ice sheet in MOST areas.

We are going to continue to stay away from:

  1.  Bridges
  2. Cattails
  3. Sunken Roads
  4. Pressure Ridges
  5. Coulees

Otherwise as we plan our weekend we intend to be driving with our 4-Wheel Drive trucks for at least the next few days.  If our intentions change we will keep you posted.

  1. Did the northern feeder lakers receive lots of snow? Whiteout conditions make me think the accesses will be blown in.. or do you think by friday morning theyll be passable?
