Christmas Eve- ATV Travel Alert!

ATV Travel Alert!

We want to make sure everyone has a safe and happy holiday season.  Just because we are in the middle of an Arctic Cold Snap, does not mean the ice is good everywhere.  The false sense of safety because it is bitter cold is not a good thing.

A pick up went through the ice on Lake Irvine Thursday night just east of Highway 281.  We just drilled into a spot on the main bay, Bud Bay area.  First hole was 9 Inches, as travel out went further the ice diminished to 5 inches, and then that:

Oh Crap!

moment.

Slush and 2 inches of ice!

Please, please exercise safety and caution as you venture out over the next few days.  There are still a lot of problem areas and areas where the open water has just finally locked up.  This fluffy snow is going to disguise a lot of problem areas and just because your last hole was good, does not mean the next hole is the same.  It is vital that you drill as you go.

The feature photo is a 2-inch area, that is not shaved ice and snow on top, it is pure slush.

Good Luck out there!
