They Should Be Biting And Should Be On A Feeding Frenzy
They SHOULD be landing in our decoys!
They SHOULD be jumping in the boat for us!
They SHOULD be coming through the hole left and right right!
They SHOULD…
They SHOULD…
They SHOULD…
Someone forgot to tell nature, many many times, what it should be doing.
Well, it doesn’t always work out that way. As with all things natural, our fish up here follow the rules of chaos and randomness and NOT what they SHOULD be doing.
One would think with the pre-spawn and spawn fast approaching and longer days and warmer weather, that fishermen all over the lake would be bringing in buckets upon buckets of Perch. Just oodles of them!
Don’t get me wrong, there are still fish being caught, and a lot of them. However, more times than not the last few days, the fish we have found have not been acting like they SHOULD be acting.
If they would have followed the rules like we want them to, we would have had our limit in 20 minutes. Usually 3 feet of fish that zoom up to meet your lure, bite!
Usually they bite a lot. Usually they bite so much you can’t keep up with them.
But…
That didn’t happen and we are stuck with trying to figure it out again.
Only One Option
There is only one thing to do when the fish don’t cooperate, when they don’t do what they are suppose to do.
Keep drilling!
I sat both Saturday and Sunday and I was frustrated. About as frustrated as I have been on the ice.
But you know what, I was fishing, and being a frustrated fishermen is a heck of a lot better than 99.9% of the other jobs out there.
I am also extremely frustrated right now, but for different reasons. After a few days of struggling on the ice, I can’t wait to get out there, I NEED to get back out there, and due to other obligations I can’t. Not for a couple of days anyway.
When I do get back out there though, look out, it’s…
Game Time!
cause it is almost…
Spawn Time!
and even though those fish aren’t quite acting like they should be, it is inevitable that they will, and when they do finally straighten out…
YAHTZEE!!!!!!!!!
Happy Customers/Happy Fishermen:
Good Luck out there!
The fishing was great for our 3 day trip here BUT… I will never come back because the locals are absolutely territorial pricks.
Wendy,
We are glad you had really good fishing. We are deeply saddened by the report that you had an unfortunate experience with a group of locals. We hope you reported them to the Game and Fish. There is no room for confrontation on the ice. We recognize that some people that fish Devils Lake on a regular basis can be very rude. We have experienced it on a number of occasions. We also hope that you change your mind about returning to this wonderful fishery. There are far more people out there on the ice that are cordial and more than willing to help than that are jerks. IF you have any information about who it was that you had a conflict with, we would love to learn more. Nothing will be corrected if it isn’t reported. Email us at [email protected].
