Fighting Deep Hard Snow and Slush
Not much has changed on the access and snow level issue. We are still recommending tracked vehicles as the snow has gotten
Hard, but not THAT hard!
We know of a few crews that have attempted truck travel in a couple of areas, only to have a good portion of their day occupied by shoveling. You might ride on top for a while, but if you stop or hit a soft spot or slush pocket, your day is basically ruined.
Trails
Woodland Resort has plowed a few trails out to Rocky Pt., Military Pt., and a couple locations on North Creel. If you access these, please stop and check in and don’t drill on the trail.
There is also a minimal trail plowed out a little ways onto East Bay that can be accessed at the Acorn Ridge boat landing.
Accesses
Most have been cleared enough for lake access by tracked vehicle at the minimum. Woodland Resort is obviously open with room for parking and an easy stop for all of your fishing needs, Estenson’s Public launch on the south end of Dead Cow is cleared and has room to park but access to the lake by truck is impossible at this time, tracks only.
Acorn ridge is cleared with room to park as is the Casino and Graham’s Island.
Some Good News At Least
A contributing member did give us some good news today though. Stump Lake has a significantly lower level of snow and driving and getting around on that lake is much much better. Just to give you an idea, here are some examples of what it looks like over east.
If you are restricted to vehicle travel only, Stump Lake, or really Stump Bay, as some of us call it, may be your best option.
The other piece of good news is that the temperature right now in Devils Lake is 37 degrees right now and we should be getting a rain and snow mix, that snow should settle and we expect some of the conditions on the lake to improve over the next 48 hours.
Hopefully the snow forecast for next week stays away and we can get back to some feasible vehicle travel on the old Hardwater!
Good Luck out there…
