When we left the ice today, I was a little skittish going off and the access we used was bad and getting worse. Yes, the next 48 hours are going to be colder, but then Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are back up in the 40’s and 50’s. We aren’t making any new ice and as far as the ice color, when we left yesterday and went on today, the ice was white. When we left the ice today, it has all turned deep blue. That is NOT a good sign. Drilling holes this morning it was still kinda solid. By mid-day, it was soft and coming up in chunks. A pretty good sign that it is the beginning of the end for our ice sheet.
Will know more over the next 48 yours, but if you plan on going out there, be careful.
We Won’t Know Until Wednesday or Thursday
The fishing, well the fishing has continued to be the toughest fishing I have ever experienced on Devils Lake. A guy can mark tons and tons of fish, getting them to bite is an entirely different story. They just are not interested at all.
