Today, Fishing Is Secondary!
Those That Have And Do Serve Are Primary!
To all of those out there that have served or are serving to protect this precious thing that we call freedom, Devils Lake Fishing Report would like to say thank you. Memorial Day in the U.S.A. is a day to think about and reflect on those who are no longer with us and paid the ultimate price to ensure that we remain free.
Bobber Bite!!
With the lateness of our Spring and the influx of new waters into the basin, our waters have been abnormally chillier than normal for this time of year and that has slowed our Walleyes down just a little. To put as many Walleyes as possible into the boat in 6-8 hours, slip bobbers with leeches is the way to go right now. I would guess that, with this little cold front we have starting today, it is going to continue to be that way for the next week or so.
Put your boat in 6-10 feet of water and position those bobbers in 3-6 feet of water, either along the wind blown shoreline or adjacent to flooded timber; sunken road beds work as well. I usually give a spot 15 minutes, no bites and we move. If we get hit or catch a fish, we give it longer.
Pitching Plastics!
We love to pitch!!
It is our favorite way to chase Walleyes in the Summer and we do it a lot. Being that it is our preferred way to catch Walleyes, we go back to it time and time again. I would rather pitch Crank baits but when things are a little behind as they are right now, plastics are working better. The tow colors we have had the most success with have been Perch colors and White. Both have gotten us the most Walleye hits.
Depth is key here and having the boat in the right position will increase your hits. Wind is key as well and being on the shoreline that is getting hit by the wind is vital. Now, direct wind isn’t always necessary, but a crosswind blowing across the face of the shoreline or hitting it diagonally will also be effective.
You can probably, and according to some reports, others are; get Walleyes (and big ones) with crank baits but we aren’t relying on them for the majority of our fish right now.

Points Of Interest!
Location #1: Really muddy up there and we haven’t really targeted this area because of it
Location #2: One of our focal points and while we haven’t gotten Walleyes every time we have gone here, we have gotten fish every time and the Walleyes here are really starting to get going.
Location #3: The wind has to be right for this area but when it is they can be hotspots, planned to target them today and tomorrow, but you know– weather!
Location #4: 2nd hotspot, Walleyes are really getting going here and should be a focal point.
Location #5: Water is really chilly here and not ready yet.
Location #6: With a west wind, this spot is one to target, and it is close to a launch so even on really windy days it is still possible.
Location #7: Bobber bite here is going pretty good even though the water is kinda chilly
Location #8: Chilly and pike infested, a few Eyes to be had with bobbers
Location #9: Warmer water and the Walleyes and Pike are present.
Location #10: For some Bigger Eyes to be had from pitching.
Location #11: Haven’t hit this area yet.
Location #12: Colder than expected and not ready yet.
Location #13: Filled, and I mean filled with White Bass
Location #14: Probably the coldest location on the list, needs some sun before it gets going
Location #15: Option 3 on our hit list as of right now, definitely a Walleye limit attainable spot
Location #16: They are in here from time to time but just not consistent yet
Location #17: Being that it is so close to the main lake, it is cooler than the back bays by it and therefore needs some more time
Location #18: Good bobber spot right now
Location #19: Boat infested but there is a reason behind that, especially with bobbers
Location #20: Another White Bass infested area
Do Us, And Everyone A Favor!
Take The Kids!
With all of the electronics and ‘other’ things to do out there, the young people in our country are losing the interest of the outdoors. It is our job as promoters of hunting and fishing to get them involved.
It helps when they have an interest in it, like Parker! He wants to go every time he can and the youngster is a fast learner. We worked on setting the hook and casting the last two times out and as you can see, we had some positive results.
Do everyone a favor and on your next trip out, take a kid, they will thank you for it.
Still working on the cutting part!!
Good Luck out there!
