Spring Shore Fishing 101

Nothing Like Getting The Long Rods Out Again!

There is just something about getting the long rods out again after 4-5 months with the short rods. Every spring about this time, we start to get a little antsy as usually, we can’t be on the ice. Now I know that there is still ice out there and there are still guys going out to the ice sheet still, but very shortly, it is going to be time to get back out there, what in between Snow Goose hunting trips.

There is open water at the bridges and enough to cast at channel A, so for some it has already started. We haven’t casted a long rod yet, but as soon as this weather clears, we will be heading out there.

Now granted, we just got 4-5 inches of snow in the last 48 hours, but still for the season, well below normal. We froze up pretty saturated so there is ample moisture, especially in the northern edge of the basin. So, at the moment there is not a lot of current and the coulees to the north are still iced up and frozen.

On years will little to no current, the best course of action is to stay relatively close to the basin. Bridge areas and channel A to dry lake are the areas that you are going to want to focus on. If we get significantly more precipitation going forward, then the current will be increased, and the fish will be traveling much further. The next 2-3 weeks will dictate how far to the north one should go.

As we go out and fish, we will again be using our Spring/Shore Fishing Guide to tell you where we have been.

Good Luck out there!
