One Last Hurrah!
This Week May Be The Last
With our last clients of the year Saturday and yesterday and a solo limit today, that will probably be it for the season. In the end, that made for 101 trips on onto the ice for me. One of the higher totals for an ice fishing year spanning roughly 4 months.
We would like to say that it was an awesome year, and fish were flying through the ice, but that would be pretty dishonest of us. In reality, it was the toughest ice season that we have experienced in over 10 years. Don’t get me wrong, the fish are there, at times 1000’s and on a slow day, 100’s; they just would not bite very often. When they did, it was short lived.
A variety of factors and they probably all contributed, tons of shrimp, really clear water, unstable weather, unstable barometer; pick your poison. Even with all the obstacles, we were still able to break 1000 fish for the season and after a couple of days off, I am sure I will get the itch to go back out there but there will be a very short transition to Snow geese and shore fishing.
If you plan on going out there over the next week, be careful and stay shallow. Buckshots and minnow heads and get them before 10 or after 5, no sense on even staying out in the hours in between.
We would also like to thank all of our clients that we had the pleasure of taking out onto the ice. We wouldn’t be in business without you and we truly enjoy our time in the bear:
Good Luck out there!
