Fishing Report, Ice Fishing

Wednesday Weekly Ice Conditions: Dec. 18, 2024

And Another ‘Almost’

In some areas we are a little over a foot now and with this next cold snap, we will be getting over that foot mark. Almost Pick-up ready but not quite. We have seen a few on the ice already and we certainly don’t recommend it.

Here are our recommendations:

Foot Travel: Pretty much anywhere now except right on the pressure ridges, which there are starting to be a few out there. Also, if you see any open water, then that goes without saying to stay away

ATV/UTV: In a lot of places right now. Almost across the fishery except maybe in the centers of the deep water basins, otherwise you should be good. Again, just make sure you stay away from ridges.

SnoBears: This is where it becomes tricky because people just assume that ‘since they float’ they are good to go. Such a falsehood. A person still needs a recommended 10 inches of ice. We have been on some that is 8.5 and 9 but I was very uncomfortable the whole time and it was not enjoyable. THe finger bays and water under 30 feet it pretty good except the eastern end of the lake. The west end and Pelican, along with Irvine/Alice should be good to go as well. Seeing a lot of them out there, just be careful.

Trucks: NOT YET!! I know there are some of you out there that are chomping at the bit to get your trucks out there but:

  • A. It is still very early
  • B. It is just not thick enough yet

Some DL Gold in Them There Waters

Under 30 feet of water again with Various Varmints and Coffin Spoons.

Good Luck out there!
