Wednesday Weekly Ice Conditions: Jan. 17

Over A Foot Now

Almost Everywhere!

Before the cold snap it was like this:

Now, it’s like this:

That’s roughly 5 more inches in about 5 days! Needless to say, we made some ice, and we should be good to go pretty much everywhere.

Cracks And Ridges!

Always be very careful around these. They are always going to be problem areas. There are a lot of ridges, pretty much all over the place and if you are going to cross one, do a few things 1st. Don’t do it alone for one thing, drill on both sides of the ridges to make sure it is stable. With this massive cold snap, some of those ridges will be shifting and moving so they may have weakened, even if it was just -20.

Cracks are usually less worrisome, but again you want to be careful around them.

Also, when crossing a ridge, if possible, try to cross as close to shore as possible if you can. While we don’t recommend crossing any of them at any time, if you feel you must, do so with the utmost care.

About Irvine!!??

There is still some very shady areas out on lake Irvine. We don’t tell you this because we don’t want you to go there; we say this because there are some dangerous spots out there. We know of 2 areas that have very thin Ice out there. While we don’t fish Irvine once we can get out on the Main lake, there are a lot of guys out there right now and we want all of them to come back alive. One of the areas is straight south of Magnussons Trees and the other spot is a little further south of that. Be careful out there!

NO FISH IS WORTH A LIFE!!

It’s not always about fishing, sometimes being safe is the most important thing!

Good Luck out there!
