Was Pretty Puckered The Whole Time
But It Was Worth It!!
Things are starting off pretty good for this Ice Season, limit of Crappie last Wednesday, limit of Perch today! While we know that everyday isn’t going to turn out that way, it sure is sweet when things come together.
One of the main things we want to stress to everyone out there is that there isn’t a whole lot of REALLY good ice out there. The main lake finally locked up again, for the 3rd time, soon the main lake it is pretty much a ‘no-go’. Finger bays are about the only areas that we would even check the ice, aside from maybe Pelican and the Northern lakes.
I would say that in about a week, we will start to see a lot more areas to target, bt for now, if you are going to go you must drill as you go, and remember our rules for early ice:
Be Safe!! We Want You Back Again and Again!!
- Drill as you go
- Go on foot
- Travel in at least pairs
- Have picks and rope with
- Make sure someone knows where you are going and when you should return.
NO FISH IS WORTH A LIFE!
Lure Selection!
One thing I love about early ice is that usually, you don’t have to worry about being so touchy with your lure selection. Buckshots, Coffin Spoons, and Varmints will usually do the trick and getting down quick is more important than anything else.
The time for Tungstens will be upon us soon enough, for now, enjoy the active fish!
Depths!
We haven’t been ultra shallow since last week, and the bites we have had have been over 15 feet of water. Nothing Super deep yet, but then, we haven’t been able to search waters over 30 feet of water because of the ice conditions.
Good Luck out there!
