Feels Good To Be Back!!
Time Waits For No Man!!
It feels like a long time since we’ve been back at this keyboard, publishing meaningful posts for the Fishing Report, but here we are. A lot had been going on since we left for our Waterfowl break.
Where to begin, lots of stuff to process but in a nutshell, around the 27-30th of November I had a mild stroke. It started out as what I though was the affects of hitting my head on the decoy trailer and ended up with a 3-day stay in the hospital. Everything considered, I was lucky and very fortunate to only have very minimal lasting effects other than a little ‘letter’ and ‘number’ issues when it comes to processing. For those of you that were awake of the situation, we truly appreciate the thought and prayers,
I would like to think that we are right as the rain, but we know that is not true and there are going to be some growing pains but here we are and on we go!!
Good Ice!!
First of all, we have a really good foundation of ice out there!
This 1st 3-5 inches came very quickly and the last week we rounded out that initial 7-9 inches of pretty uniform and clean ice!! I didn’t think that I have seen this clean of an ice sheet in quite some time and that can be nothing but good news!! I would predict that we will be seeing a lot of ATV and SnoBear traffic out there in short order and vehicle travel will be not far behind, great news!!
Fish Are Willing!!
Along with this clean ice, we have found willing fish as well. Not super Toads but a lot of mediums to mid sized Jumbos!
We were in 30ish feet and 23 feet, the last two days. Sunday was flooded timber and today was just a little bay off a ledge.
We are not in super deep water, so most are going back and with a little catching-and-release, we have been able to put together a couple of really nice days. Finding them in some of the usual locations and these early ice hunts are going to be where we will be hanging out for the next few weeks.
Early Ice Is Some Of The Best Ice!!
I love early ice, the fish seem to be very active and very willing participants. For about the next month, we will be hitting up as many as those spots as we can to bring you as many fishing locations as possible to better serve you, the fishermen of Devils Lake!!
