Wednesday Weekly Ice Conditions: Act 4!

3 Good Days

Followed By A Negative One!

A spot that went from producing this:

To this:

In a 3 day span, it happens more than we want to admit.  Fired up fish that are on the feed eventually go negative and that is exactly what happened to our fish today.  They were there, marked fish for most of the day, they just weren’t into it.  We did get one Super Tanker that tipped the tape at 14 inches and 1.75 pounds so if you are only going to catch a few, make ’em good ones.  It sure makes those 9’s and 10’s look small!!

Ice Shaping Up!

There is good, ATV and Snobear worthy ice out there, BUT, there is also some stuff that is lagging behind a little bit.  Talking with Eric from Woodland’s Ice Crew and they are still hitting some 4-5 inch spots in Creel and talked to some other fishermen that hit some 6-inch spots in 6 Mile in an area where most of the other ice was 9-10.

Never go by the calendar, go by the conditions.   We had some later forming ice this year and we are significantly behind last year and even the last few years.

We are still drilling periodically as we go, and while we have had a SnoBear on the ice twice now, it was on an area where we had been before and knew how thick the ice was.

No one ever wants to hear of a tragedy on the ice, so be safe, continue to drill as you go.  Follow some Ice Safety procedures:

  1.  Don’t go into a new area alone

  2. Drill as you go

  3. Have ice picks

  4. Let someone know here you plan to go, when you should return

  5. Remember- NO ICE IS SAFE ICE

Good Luck out there!
