Wednesday Weekly Ice Conditions #17

Day-To-Day

Well, it has come to that time of year where ice conditions are varying from day to day and in some instances from hour to hour.

The day to day part would have to do with the overall ice sheet itself.  The hour to hour part would deal with the landings.

On Sunday, when we went on the ice the landing was firm and we had zero issues.  As we left that area of the lake around 1 o’clock, there was considerable puddling and we did fall off the ice as we got about 5 feet from the edge.  Not major issues.

We entered another part of the lake at around 3:30 and I was a little ‘sphincter pinched’ as we drove on, but the ice under the water seemed solid.  As we vacated the ice Sunday night, I was convinced that I was going to be submerged but we were able to get off safely.

Now this week and a couple of cold days and nights and we are back to being pretty good.

Drastic Change Coming

Those conditions are going to change drastically over the next 48-72 hours.  Chances of rain tomorrow and the forecast through April 1st looking like this:

Thursday 23rd       43/27

Friday 24th            39/25

Saturday 25th       48/33

Sunday 26th         49/31

Monday 27th         49/31

Tuesday 28th        49/32

Wednesday 29th   48/30

Thursday 30th       54/36

Friday 31st            54/33

Saturday 1st         50/34

The highs don’t scare me so much as the lows starting Saturday.  They aren’t going to be giving us a re-freeze any of those nights.

At this moment in time I still plan on driving my truck this weekend but will have the sled and 4-wheelers gassed up and ready just in case.

If you are coming from any significant distance to get in one more last hurrah, we strongly suggest you tow along the wheelers or sleds.

I am guessing after either Saturday or Sunday, we will no longer be venturing out with vehicles and after the 29th and 30th we will probably be on foot.

Keep tuned in, as conditions change, we will keep you posted.

If you are headed this way and want a head start on where to go, we can help with that:
