Monday Weekly Fishing Report #16

Thought We Had The Diamond Mine!

We really thought we had the Crappie Diamond Mine dialed in on Friday, they were there but then the little whitey’s moved in and were a lot more active than the Crappies.  We made the decision to leave them.

They are still there in 31-33 feet of water but you will have to fight through the small White Bass.

If you want to see a lot of action on the Vexilar and sort through the White Bass, here it is:

Sometimes Patience And Grinding On A School Pays Off

We made the decision Sunday to split up our efforts and for one group, the decision to sit and grind on a docile school would be beneficial.

For us searchers, well, not so much:

We marked a lot of fish, just not a lot of takers.  Talking to other groups, the story was the same for many.  Docile Perch that didn’t want to budge.

Some got into them but with the up and down weather systems and barometer it was not ideal conditions.

Our grinders ended Sunday with a pretty good result though, in 37 feet of water.  There were Walleyes and Perch mixed in and the Walleyes, coming from that deep, were puking up leeches!

That school is big and there are a lot of fish in it.

As we came off the ice on Sunday, the landing had deteriorated significantly.  If we don’t get some cold nights to re-freeze the landings, it is going to be interesting getting back on the lake.  We suggest, if you are coming from afar, that you bring sleds or wheelers because of this.

The ice sheet itself is still thick and strong, it’s the getting on it part that is the problem.

Focus your efforts in 30-33 feet on the edges of drops and deep flats and basins in 35+, that is where the majority of the bites are coming from.

If it is cloudy, sit on a docile school and grind on them with jigging and Slip-Bobbers, if you have sun, search out the active school.

Window Of Opportunity

One of our contributing members had about a 3 hour window in which to get on the lake and of course he took it.  Got on a 32-37 foot shelf and marked 3 feet of fish in every hole.  Said it was crazy, had never seen THAT many fish stacked up…

THAT WOULDN”T BITE!

Managed to get this:

So at least we know that they were Perch.  That 3 feet of fish ledge is there for the taking if they ever turn on:

Good Luck out there!

Hold On TO Your Rod…

And…

  1. I’m heading out Thursday morning and staying at Lakeview lodge. Any tips or advice on where to start? did the water get dirty since all of the melting and water running into the lake and holes? Any advice will be appreciated or any way points to buy for the west end of the lake would be great. Thinking of mauve coulee for Thursday afternoon. Mainly chasing Walleye’s and Perch, possibly some pike on tip ups.

    1. Havent noticed a staining of the water due to run off. We have Start Points and Fringe Points for the west end and our weekly elite report also comments on those areas. 30 + feet is the go to zone right nor for Perch and there will be walleyes mixed in.
