Polar Vortex Brings Solid Foundation
Our Arctic event that had sub-zero temperatures hanging over us for over a week gave us a real nice foundation. Most areas have 6+ inches of ice and a few locales are hitting that 12-15 inch mark.
The downside is the hard, fast freeze brings with it lots of pressure ridges that have sprung up all over the place. A couple up north on the feeder lakes are straight nasty:
This is on Lake Alice and can create somewhat dangerous situations. Pressure ridges and the ice conditions they create can be dangerous. Please, do not try to cross and be wary of their presence.
Ice Depths At This Time:
Creel: 8-10 Inches
Six Mile :9-12 Inches
The Flats and West: 12-15 Inches
The Northern Feeder lakes: 12-15 inches
Stump: East 6 inches, West 8-10 inches
Have not heard or experienced the ice on East Devils Lake yet.
Even though a lot of these depths have fishermen thinking its pick-up time, I would strongly recommend staying with 4-Wheelers and Snowmobiles or Sno-Bears if you have one for the present time.
Reports coming in as we prepare to attack the ice over the Holiday Break is the fishing is picking up and perch are coming out of anywhere from 15-18 feet all the out to 40 feet.
The walleyes on the northern feeder lakes are coming in that 6-9 foot range while the big lake is producing eyes in 6-8, 10-12, and 16-20 feet. Check in daily as we will be posting about everyday over the next two weeks.
Until tomorrow…..
