Thursday’s We Will Talk About Trends in Ice Fishing, Waterfowl Hunting, and Open Water Fishing!
One trend I’ve seen really starting to take off in the ice fishing world is the evolution of the tip-up.
I am not a big tip-up guy:
A. I am a terrible hand-over-hand fisherman.
B. I like to feel the fish in the rod.
I am a huge slip bobber guy. I love to be able to find a school, active or not, and set up on it. If they are not into the active jig, more times than not i can get them with bobbers.
I have had days where I found fish but they wouldn’t go, I set up the ‘slip bobber diamond’ and crushed them on the bobbers. Something about a plain hook and a squirming minnow can really get the perch going.
Not a big dead stick guy either, I like to see that tappy tap on the bobber.
I have dreams about it, just watching that bobber all of a sudden come alive, its like a chess match. Let him really take it or nail him after a 1 inch dip.
The trend I see is the evolution of stuff like these:

We have never test driven these devices, would love to get my hands on a few to test drive but like I said, I’m a big slip bobber guy, pretty sure I would miss the lovely sight of a bobber dancing in the hole. For me, on the ice, give me one of these:
I also am not sure about the number of moving parts when it is -30 and things are freezing up. A little Pam cooking spray on the slip bobber and she slides right through an iced up hole.
Good Luck out there, stay safe as NO ice is SAFE ice and…
Looking forward to the fishing reports.
