Good News and Bad News, Which Do You Want First!
Well, early ice has us at the liberty of the weather. Extreme warm temperatures had us delayed. The first couple storms of the year missed us and we were getting some ice on the northern feeder lakes.
The Big Lake is all still wide open, and in the end, after this blizzard, it ended up being a godsend.
We were able to get our on Saturday and Sunday and were walking on 2-2.5 inches of ice. The shorelines of Alice, Irvine, and Mike’s and pretty much all of Dry had these ice conditions on Sunday.
The bad news is, all of those areas that had enough ice to walk on probably didn’t blow open and now are covered in 6-10 inches of wind driven snow.
We had this same situation last year and the ice on those northern feeder lakes was compromised for a good portion of the year.
Upcoming highs and lows in the single digits and below zero, however, will freeze the rest of the open water over the next 2-3 days and we will be venturing out this weekend.
Be Prepared When You Get Here!
No ice is safe ice so please be careful as our early ice season gets underway. Walking out is going to be the rule for the next week or so so bring these:

Good Luck and look for our latest reports on where we are fishing and what we are pulling through the hole……

Checked some ice on the main lake tonight and glassed the main bay and east bay. While the hole we drilled was only 2 and a quarter inches, the entire main bay and all of east bay as far as we could see with the binocs was totally frozen. Its seizing up very quickly however and there are going to be some interesting pressure ridges, already and interesting one forming across north six mile. There were guys walking on to the Dion Road today as well as a few flip shacks along Hwy. 281 on Lake Irvine.
Appreciate the info buy u a beer next saturday
