2016-2017 Weekly Ice Conditions Report #1
We will begin the 2016-2017 Ice Fishing Season with our Weekly Ice Conditions Report.
The Report is not a great one for us ice addicts, the big lake is entirely open and the northern feeder lakes are waffling between a skim of ice and open, skim of ice and open.
Parts of Dry Lake and Lake Alice have remained frozen.
For the time being we are not venturing out onto our 2 First Ice Sloughs yet.
We thought we would get a chance on Saturday or Sunday but conditions were not favorable and when we checked one of the sloughs, all’s we got out of it was a wet boot.
Hopefully with below freezing lows and next week’s deep freeze we will be walking on the Northern Feeder Lakes by next weekend.
Stayed tuned and we will give you Ice Alerts if conditions change for the better.

Product Review: JB Lures Varmint
What is it: The Gold Varmint and Gold Rattle Varmint, multi-species rattle spoon and jigging spoon
Positives: They are heavy and get down quick. Very important when fishing deep water perch and walleyes.
The gold color is a killer on Devils Lake and these have good shine to them, not dull like the Buckshots. They also are a little flatter and wider on the shine side unlike Buckshots that seem to have less surface area limiting the amount of reflection that comes off of them.
Price, they are less than 3 bucks at most tackle stores and with the pike infested waters of DL, this is a bonus.
Negatives: After 250-300 perch the paint starts to chip, but if that is all that I can come up with for a negative, i’ll take this product.
Perch Points: 5/5
