Plugged In!

I hate packing!  Abhor it!  My mind starts racing when I even think about having to pack for a trip.  Due to this, I put it off, and put it off, and put it off.

I am the ultimate procrastinator when it comes to packing.  This results in me missing multiple items and having to recheck and recheck and try to find one of the lost lists I made 8 times.

This is when I know WHAT to pack, if you throw the wrench in the cog of not knowing what is needed on the trip and I have to be prepared for numerous scenarios, well, you can see where planning trips can be a chore.

Planning a hunting/fishing trip is no different.

Aside from the general items such as skivvies, t-shirts, personal items, one needs information from their destination so that they are abreast of what the conditions are and what the necessities are at this time.

DLFR PLUGS YOU IN

Back in Early December, we would have told you to bring a sled, some warm boots and ice cleats as walking out was the only fishing you could do and traveling light was essential.

Fast Forward to the end of December and your packing plans had changed considerably.

Tracked Vehicles and waterproof shin high boots were added to a lengthy list of items you would need for successful outing on Devils Lake.

And you HAD to have them or your weren’t getting out there.

Things are in the process of changing now as well.

What should you bring to have a successful trip on Devils Lake RIGHT NOW?

Well, I would still say tracked vehicles, but you might not need it…

but you might…

but you might not.

Waterproof boots that go to the knee, but you might not need them…

but you might…

but you might not.

With the amount of snow that was and kind of is on the ice…

RIGHT NOW,

today,

you need a tracked vehicle to effectively and efficiently navigate to spots that are likely Perch habitat.

Temps Are Soaring For This Time Of Year

With a high of 39 degrees today, 41 tomorrow, and 39 on Saturday you might not need those tracks by the weekend.

It is important, if you are traveling to a distant destination to have the necessities.

Stay tuned to us at DLFR and we will keep you plugged in to what is happening on the ice.

We also can help you out in being plugged in on where to go, there are a lot of Perch coming through the ice and we have some information for that too!

Good Luck Out There!

Hold On To Your Rod…

AND…

CATCH MORE FISH!

  1. Looking for a little bit more updated walleye fishing report, seems like you guys have switched to mainly perch which is understandable, but looking for some eye reports, and some starting points.

    1. The best walleye fishing right now is probably on the northern feeder lakes; Lake Alice, Lake Irvine, Mikes Lake, Chain Lakes. We are catching some bigger eyes mixed right in with the perch but walleyes on the big lake are all about structure and early or late in the day.

  2. Thanks for the reports they are very helpful and full of information. We will be headed there on the 28 th and hopefully have a good trip. Do you think truck travel will be doable around that time with the warm temps? I keep an eye on these posts trying to plan if we need snowmobiles or will they be something we don’t need. And again thanks for the reports!

    1. Lots of trucks will be on the ice this weekend as a lot started venturing out yesterday and today, we plan on driving out with trucks tomorrow.

    1. Estenson’s on Dead cow to get on Black Tiger bay, The 6 mile bay boat launch to get on south 6 mile, the dion road on the north end of north 6 mile to get on the north end, behind pops bar to get on east bay. Grahams island state park boat launch to get access to the main bay and the flats, woodland resort to get on creel and access to military and rocky pts.

      1. Thank you! I was thinking of hitting six mile area it looks like lots of nice structure do you think?

        1. The perch we have been getting have been coming off of structureless flats though. The crappies have been holding near some structure and brush piles but for the most part structureless basins have been where the roaming schools of perch have been.

  3. Thanks for the info on the white bass! What a blast to catch them. The Vexilar lights up like a XMas tree! Good weekend for marking a lot of fish, however, with the barometer unsteady this weekend, the bite was off and on.

  4. Hi, i read your blog from time to time and i own a similar one and i was just wondering if you get
a lot of spam remarks? If so how do you reduce it, any plugin or anything you can recommend?
I get so much lately it’s driving me insane so
any help is very much appreciated.
